Propagandists Launch Fake that Ukraine Can No Longer Count on EU Military Assistance

Navigation and useful materials

Short

A statement that allegedly Ukraine can no longer count on military assistance from the European Union is spread on the Internet. It's not true.

Description of the fake LIE

EU foreign ministers have not reached an agreement on the allocation of military assistance to Kyiv in the amount of EUR 5 bln in 2024. Kremlin-controlled pro-Russian channels in Telegram report this with reference to the statement of the head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell.

Refutation TRUTH

This propaganda can be debunked easily given that the European Union is already working on the creation of an EUR 20 bln military aid fund for Ukraine; from 2024 to 2027, Kyiv will be allocated EUR 5 bln annually for weapons and training programmes.

“As of now, Ukraine has received EUR 5.6 bln in military assistance from a mechanism that is not included in the EU budget. It reimburses the EU countries for the supply of weapons to Ukraine,” the fact-checkers of the BezBrekhni (Without Lie) project established.

As for the “statements” of the head of EU diplomacy Borrell about the alleged lack of a coordinated position on Ukraine, there are no publications, mentions, or news in the official communication channels of the EU about this.

It is noted that Josep Borrell, at a meeting of EU defence ministers in Toledo, personally proposed a plan for EUR 20 bln for the defence of Ukraine. Currently, the work on the coordination of these programmes and projects is underway.
