The Kremlin’s special services used reconnaissance drones to spread disinformation in Kharkiv

Navigation and useful materials

The Russians have distributed numerous fake text messages through Leer-3 systems, which simulate cellular base stations and are connected to the Orlan-10 long-range reconnaissance drone.

According to Reuters, the FSB, and GRU have used such tactics and spread disinformation via SMS and Telegram when Russian troops advanced in the Kharkiv region.

Russians also actively used their bot farms to spread lies in the Kharkiv region. The average number of disinformation messages about the war has increased to more than 2,500 per day in May (during the Russian offensive in the Kharkiv region), compared to 200 per day in March.

By the way, since the beginning of the full-scale invasion, Ukrainian special services have blocked the activities of 86 Russian bot farms in Ukraine, which controlled three million accounts on social networks.

TikTok and Telegram are still active sources of Russian online disinformation, both in Ukraine and in Europe.
