Short

Russian propagandists write that Budanov admitted that Ukraine is engaged in nuclear blackmail of Europe. The head of the Main Intelligence Directorate did not say such a thing.

Description of the fake LIE

Head of the Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defence of Ukraine Budanov confirmed that “Ukraine is bombing the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant” and “wants to cause a nuclear Armageddon” to blackmail the whole world. This is what the Russian media write.

Refutation TRUTH

In an October interview with NV, Budanov and his colleagues revealed details of some special operations of military intelligence. For example, StopFake journalists mentioned the attempts of the Armed Forces of Ukraine to de-occupy the Zaporizhzhia NPP.

Thus, the Ukrainian military landed three times on the left bank of the Dnipro near Enerhodar to create a bridgehead for the de-occupation of the city and the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant. The operations failed, but disrupted Russia’s plans to connect the ZNPP to its energy system.

No “confessions” that Ukraine allegedly “bombed” the plant were made by intelligence representatives.

Moreover, attempts by the Ukrainian Defence Forces to repel the occupiers are not a “crime”; Ukraine uses its legitimate right to self-defence in accordance with Article 51 of the UN Charter. Russia regularly creates crisis situations at the ZNPP, each threatening to turn into a large-scale accident.
