In the user’s personal profile on the Reuters agency website, the topic of Russia’s war against Ukraine is called the “Ukrainian crisis”. This was announced by the Head of the Centre for Strategic Communications and Information Security, Ihor Solovei:
“In this way, the responsibility seems to be transferred to Ukraine, as if ‘something is wrong’ with it. Meanwhile, Russia, which is the source of the problems, remains out of focus.
In addition, the word “crisis” is too streamlined, a term that blurs the terrible reality of genocidal Russian aggression. It is also incorrect to use the words “Ukrainian war” (as if Ukraine started it) or “war in Ukraine” (as if it is purely our internal problem).“
Moreover, Solovei noted that Reuters does not offer any topics for the tag “Russia” or “Russian Federation.”
“It is as if it was not Russia that unleashed the largest war in modern Europe, as if nuclear threats and calls to destroy the international order are not coming from Moscow. Shame, colleagues, this mistake must be corrected!” concluded the Head of the Centre for Strategic Communications.
