Short

Rumors that “Zelenskyy and Umerov agreed to same-sex marriages in Ukraine” are being spread on the Internet. That's a lie.

Description of the fake LIE

The President of Ukraine and the Minister of Defence “gave the green light” to same-sex marriages, and the Armed Forces of Ukraine will have a “blue brigade,” where LGBT+ representatives will serve. This information is disseminated by Russian Telegram channels.

Refutation TRUTH

According to Article 51 of the Constitution of Ukraine, “marriage is based on the free consent of a woman and a man.” Moreover, according to Article 157, “the Constitution of Ukraine shall not be amended in conditions of martial law or a state of emergency.”

That is, the president or any other person cannot give permission for same-sex marriage. Neither does the Minister of Defence have anything to do with such legislative initiatives, experts of the BezBrekhni project explained.

Russians spread fake news on the topic of LGBT+ in order to support the rejection of European civilized values by the domestic audience, as well as to justify the war against Ukraine by “fighting for Christian values.”
