FAKE ALERT: “Ukraine recruits militants in Syria through an Islamist group”

Description of the fake LIE

“Ukrainian emissaries” established ties with the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham group in Syria in order to prepare “despicable operations” against Russia. This statement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was disseminated by the Kremlin propaganda media.

Refutation TRUTH

With these statements, Lavrov “confirmed” the fake information that was spread the day before by the Turkish publication Aydınlık referencing some “anonymous sources.” This publication, owned by the pro-Russian party Vatan, regularly relays Russian propaganda and anti-Ukrainian fakes.

The “leak” through the Turkish media and Lavrov’s statement is a typical Russian special information operation aimed at promoting the narrative about an allegedly “terrorist” Ukraine and “Kyiv’s ties to international terrorism.”

It is also an attempt to weaken Ukraine’s support in Turkey, which has its own interests in Syria, and to discredit Ukraine in the West, particularly in the eyes of the United States. The Aydınlık’s leak was published exactly on September 11, the anniversary of the attack on the World Trade Center in New York.

In fact, it is the Kremlin that not only practices terrorist methods of waging war in Ukraine, but also maintains active ties with Islamists—the leaders of Hamas and the Taliban regularly visit Moscow, Islamist groups receive weapons from Russia, and the Russian intelligence services recruit ISIS fighters and other groups.
