A bot farm developed by an employee of the Russian media network RT was disrupted in the USA

An AI-enhanced social media bot farm with almost a thousand accounts on the X social network was discovered by law enforcement officers of the United States, Canada and the Netherlands, according to a statement from the U.S. Department of Justice.

The fake profiles were created with the help of the Meliorator software (which creates authentic individuals in social networks) and pretended to be Americans, used typical names and indicated geolocation in different parts of the United States.

The purpose of the bot farm was to spread anti-American, anti-Ukrainian disinformation and Kremlin narratives.

The investigation established that it was created by a Russian who, at the beginning of 2022, worked as the deputy editor-in-chief of RT.

So far, the U.S. Department of Justice has seized two domain names and blocked 968 accounts that supported the bot farm.
