Big tech platforms and search engines need to do more to counter harmful and illegal content or else they will face fines, according to a Reuters report.
“With this call to strengthen the fight against fake news, the EU seeks to prevent disinformation that will affect the European Parliament elections in June 2024,” the European Commissioners said.
At the same time, TikTok said that artificial intelligence and well over six thousand moderators deleted millions of posts after the HAMAS attack on Israel on October 7.
Věra Jourová, Vice-President of the European Commission, expressed concern about reports of a large amount of violent and illegal content on X (formerly Twitter). It is noted that this social network does not have enough staff speaking some EU languages to counter disinformation.
